This super limited cigar is only available at Davidoff retail stores.  This as purchased from the Madison Avenue store.  It is the second in the Royal Series, the first being the incredible Salamone.

The cigar starts out smooth and creamy with some woody notes along with an underlying creaminess.  That Kelner “musk” is also present in full effect.

Vitola: Panetela

Wrapper: Connecticut Shade

Origin: Dominican Republic

Age: 10 years

Now I’m getting real excited!  This is the first of two 10 years+ cigars that were given to me by Matt (Cyrann) on the Brothers of the Leaf Cigar Forum.  This is the fourth installment of my Kelner Bomb Review Series.

Davidoff Classic No. 2

This cigar looks beautiful!  Hardly any visible veins, the wrapper looks to me to have gotten darker with age, compared to the current Davidoffs which use Ecuadorian Connecticut wrappers.  This has a little sheen on it and judging by the cellophane, this baby has been resting for a long time!

Vitola: Toro

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sungrown

Origin: TabaDom Factory, Dominican Republic

Age: almost 2 years

This is the youngest of the cigars that Matt (Cyrann) of Brothers of the Leaf gave me, but also one of the nicest.  The Winston Churchill is no slouch and I can”t wait to see what almost 2 years has done for this luxurious cigar.

This cigar is way darker than most Kelner made cigars using an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper.  The leaf is teaming with oils and has a silky touch that is inviting and alluring.

Vitola: Robusto

Wrapper: Cuban-seed Nicaraguan Maduro

Origin: DR

Age: 4 months

davidofflogoI have been patiently waiting to try this cigar for some time. When I heard the news that Davidoff was going to make a Maduro cigar, I got very excited.

One of the reasons is that I find it difficult to find a consistent maduro, especially one that burns evenly. I figured if anyone could do it, Kelner could!

When I think of luxury and cigars I think of just one name – Davidoff.  To me there are few super premiums worth what you pay for.  I think Davidoff is one of those exceptions, especially the Millennium Blend.  This is one of Henke Kelner’s best blends.

Vitola:  Torpedo

Wrapper:  Ecuadorian Connecticut

Origin: Dominican Republic

The Zino Classic Torpedo is a short little belicoso, the first new size since the Classic line was reblended by Henke Kelner a few years ago.  I picked this up at Empire Cigars.

This is a nice looking light brown colored cigar with barely visible veins and is firm but with an appropriate amount of give.  The wrapper is very thin and soft and silky to the touch.

This was a big surprise as this cigar was a disappointment first puff.  I was hit with wave after wave of ammonia, which has a halting sour that makes you want to throw it down.

This is a real shame as I had liked the Classic Line as it was a consistent cigar that had a creamy toastiness and oakiness with a hint of coffee that was mild in strength but very flavorful.

This is not ready ammonia at all.  The ammonia tang won’t leave your tongue and you just can’t get rid of the taste.  I pitched it.  This might be the first time Henke has let me down.  😦

Vitola:  Perfecto (Diadema)

Wrapper:  Connecticut Shade

Origin: Dominican Republic

From the Vault:  I’ve been sitting on this one for about two years and I thought now is as good a time as any to try it!

Very limited and very expensive, this cigar was made by Davidoff to celebrate the posthumous 100th birthday of the company’s founder Zino Davidoff.

Zino Davidoff

This is a big cigar by Davidoff standards, not only ring gauge but in complexity.  They do not roll the Diadema shape under a normal production line.

As expected this cigar looks beautiful and draws well once you get past the tiny tip at the foot.

At first the cigar is very mild.  It is woody and toasty with a hint of earth, very much like a Davidoff from the Classic line.

A third of the way through it picked up a little bit strength and flavor wise.  It became richer and in addition to the flavors above a rich coffee bean flavor danced around my tongue.

At this point, the wrapper to crack a little bit, but it is also humid outside today on my porch.

The coffe flavor morphed into a café au lait kinda thing, with a rich creaminess to the finish.

Halfway through, I start to pick up a subtle licorice note and I must point out the the burn is still dead on even!

The last half was wonderful rich and flavorful.  Amazing cigar!

Vitola:  Lonsdale

Wrapper:  Ecuadorian

Origin: Dominican Republic

From the Vault:  I’ve been sitting on this one for a while, but I feel OK smoking it as Empire Cigars just received a couple of boxes!

This is one heck of a hard cigar to come by.  It was made under a collaboration of Henke Kelner of Davidoff and Mike Chuisano of Cusano fame.  They are hand-numbered and released only once a year.

This cigar has a silky texture, more silky than I have ever felt a leaf of tobacco!  It is firm to the touch but draws like a dream.

The first few I tried were very dark, almost Maduro, but this one, I can only assume a new batch, is much lighter.

This cigar tastes like a Kelner blended cigar except it is very strong.  This cigar is not spicy like a Camacho or LFD Ligero, it has an underlying strength you only pick up when you blow it out through your nose or try to stand up quickly.

The flavors are very rich, ripe with coffee, toast and wood.  This is also a nicely complex cigar.  The flavors listed above give way to anise and white chocolate.  There is just a touch of cream on the finish.

The burn is dead even and I didn’t need to touch it up.

I enjoyed this thoroughly from beginning to end!
